Turns out energy agencies across the world have been using this idea over the last 15 years with striking results.

They've been encouraging people to reduce their energy consumption by turning it into a game.

They call this gamification.

Well, I spoke to Nermina Abdurakhmanovic, a researcher from the Fraunhofer Society in Germany, and I started by asking her what gamification means.

So is this basically like Duolingo, but one that helps you save energy?
