Yeah, look, I think the shift below target, um, it's a snapshot measure.
It helps, you know, guide where our nursing resources go, but it's not it's not the full picture.
So although, um, yeah, less than a quarter is saying that we're shift below target, uh, you know, there's a many other um
I guess um
points or metrics that we look at when we're managing our resources across the hospitals.
Um
I don't dispute them.
I just know that um they're a you know, a measure of time and a moment.
It doesn't actually tell us uh, you know, where we are short on award, what we actually did to respond to that in terms of, you know, moving our nurses uh to respond to that.
Uh you know, there's days obviously where we have unplanned leave, we've got really high sick leave at the moment, obviously, with influenza.
And there are days that we actually will run short because, you know, we try our best to kind of cover all those shortfalls, but um, you know, it's it's it's not perfect, but um it's something that we're constantly working on.
Well, overall, you know, um, you know, I know data's been a a a a huge issue and lot and lots of media attention.
If we look from twenty three to twenty five, we've gone from, you know, over thirty one thousand nurses to over thirty five thousand nurses.
We've got a lot of data about our nursing workforce, but I think it's about how we improve um the use of that data, how we're looking at it, what we're measuring and actually where we need to go with uh understanding our base requirement in nursing for
um Health New Zealand and that's work we're doing really closely with the unions.
Uh, I think, you know, um our nurses do incredible jobs every day and patient safety is m is, you know, our main priority.
It's our nurses' main priority.
So, you know, I'd like to think that, you know, high quality care is offered to every patient that walks through our doors and exits them at all times.
