Is it doing your homework, trying to scope out what the party on the other side of the table wants and is willing to flex on?
There's a lot of negotiation.
I mean, yes, there's the preparation, but is some of it actually just the psychology of making people feel like they've been heard and that they are getting what they want?
So some people do use manipulation and they do put the PR spin on what they're offering rather than tailoring it.
But I suppose that can come unstuck if, say, you and I are going to work together after that.
You're going to work out pretty soon that I just used some pretty flowery words, but I sold you a pup.

When it comes to, and I know this will be relevant for a lot of people, salary negotiations, especially in a cost of living crisis, right?
Everyone wants to earn a little bit more.
What advice would you give to people going into that when typically, like you say, they'll say, I hit this KPI, I worked this over time, I'm acting above my level of seniority or whatever it is.
should they be doing to try and get what they think they deserve?
So you need to be aware of your own worth to begin with, right?
Do you need to gee yourself up and kind of do a power pose before you go into that negotiation so you feel confident?
