And one of the things I look at is this 35th anniversary booklet that was created in Tallahassee for the Guardian Ad Litem program on the 35th anniversary.

It started in 1980, and I got started in it before that.

And one of the things that I notice here, which I think I want everybody to recognize, and it says it somewhat in the proclamation, but

There's a quote for me in here which still is the essence of the program today.

And this was from me as a sponsor of the 2003 bill which created the statewide office of the Guardian Ad Litem Program.

And it says, the Guardian Ad Litem Program has a special place in my heart and always will.

That's because of the dedicated volunteers.

In fact, the guardian ad litem is the only one in the courtroom who is there solely to protect the best interests of the child."

And that's one of the reasons why, to me, it's such a special program.

So I will read the proclamation.

abandoned and neglected children, including a guardian ad litem attorney, a child welfare professional, and a trained volunteer or pro bono attorney from the child's community.

and whereas Broward County proudly recognizes and supports the dedicated organizations, community partners, and volunteers whose efforts help prevent child abuse and neglect, strengthen families, and promote the safety and well-being of children throughout the community.

Now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, that the Board hereby designates April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention and Volunteer Appreciation Month in Broward County,
