Yeah, kinda a long time ago.

Well, um I was working in the bar and restaurant business in San Francisco after I went to Stanford and um then I

After about eight years I thought I really it was in the eighties, which is not a very sustainable lifestyle in those days.

And I thought I needed to get my act together, get a real job.

And so I decided like in those days, many of us in live with liberal arts um backgrounds were gonna go to law school because business school did not interest me.

And um I also was mad for sushi.

I've been eating I had been eating sushi since I have been eating sushi since the early eighties in San Francisco.

And so I thought and I also like languages and it speak French and sp some Spanish and a little Italian.

So I thought, okay, my next language is gonna be Japanese 'cause I wanna know what they're screaming about all the time, you know?

So I and also the sushi being at the sushi at the sushi bar was like such a I I I like to eat alone.

Um and I loved the feeling of sitting down and then, you know, the sushi master was a friend.

I followed him to his his next shop and um

So I sort of wanted to recreate that feeling also, or capture that feeling and put it more into my life.

So the idea was I'm gonna go to graduate school and get a J D and get a master's in East Asian Studies Japanese.

And so to that end, I had been an exchange student in Brussels um in my in high school, which led me into the French side because of the Francophone family.

So I decided I would go to Japan for a year to learn Japanese.

in one year.

Um, which was, you know, s kind of a silly idea.

But still it makes it a bit more real, you know, and for sure.

I'm still learning Japanese after th how many years?
