And he said, Well, I would have stayed with you, but I would have been a lot less happy.
And I think that that is the case with like Dan Savage calls it mud monogamy under duress, that one partner really is more polyamorous, and they want to have an open marriage and the other one isn't.
But because you know, they love that person, and they love their dynamic.
they will be monogamous under duress.
And then there are what he calls PUDs, polyamorous under duress, which he kind of accused me of at the beginning.
And I said, well, you know, maybe at the beginning I was like, I didn't really understand it.
Didn't know if it was for me.
But then as I learned about it, as I experienced about, and like this all is walked through in the book, you know, it was hard because I'm coming from this totally monogamous environment.
this conditioning, this fairy tale of, you know, you fall in love, you meet your Prince, you get married, you have your, your babies and your career and you support each other and your equal partner.
Well, I mean, I like to think we're equal partners and, and, and you just go off in the sunset together, holding hands forever on this straight and narrow path.
And it doesn't branch out.
And now like all these branches are,
And so I have to say thank you, really, because I would be still on the straight path with my husband who would be always a little bit unhappy that he couldn't have the fuller life that he wants.
And there would be this friction always.
And I think a lot of marriages are like that and you just, you accept it, right?
No marriage is perfect.
I'm not saying we don't have frictions.
Of course.
But if you can lessen them...
and you can increase the enjoyment, like, isn't that a good thing?
