Okay, so I've got one more comment under that original post about the New Year's Eve.

Interesting stories about shops have been posted today, which reminded me of a story my granddad told me when I was growing up.

My granddad told me about a trip he had when he was a salesman in his 30s.

I believe this was in the late 60s or beginning of the 70s.

Driving on his way to a customer, he stopped at a gas station.

He thought it was weird that the station had older pump systems with handles used to pump the fuel, and it wasn't normally something you'd see at that time.

But he needed gas and proceeded to walk into the store to get help from the attendant at the desk.

He came all up to the person behind the desk, and then he got creeped out in a way he never has before or since, he told me.

The guy behind the counter was standing stiff as a board with his hands on the desk and just stared straight out into the room, as if he couldn't see my granddad.

And he whispered some sort of unrecognizable speech, too.
