So, might be time for an update.
The government is proposing a major overhaul that could give Australians the right to tell digital platforms to delete their personal information while stopping companies collecting more data than they actually need or using it in ways that we wouldn't reasonably expect.
I think that's a really good distinction.
The timing is interesting because smart glasses.
Are creating a whole new privacy headache.
They can look like normal glasses while carrying cameras, microphones, and AI.
And Australia has
no general right to privacy in public.
The reforms would also tighten the rules around companies buying and selling things like your shopping habits, interests, and location data without clear permission.
So yes, reform.
Because perhaps our privacy laws should be younger than Taylor Swift.
