So inflation is proving much harder to shift than anyone would like.

And economists are looking at that and wondering whether Australians are still spending more freely than expected.
But that's where the catch is because spending more doesn't necessarily mean that we're buying more.
We're not suddenly flash with cash.
Gosh, anyone can tell you that.
If dinner out costs more, your insurance costs more, your groceries cost more, and taking the kids away for a few days with a swim-up bar and kids' club is suddenly costing more, you are spending considerably more money while feeling even more squeezed.
So Australians.
Are working nine to five and apparently spending enough of it to have the RBA worried.
Either way.
Banks have taken notice.
NAB now thinks the RBA could hike as soon as September.
CBA is tipping November.
ANZ says November is possible.
Westpac still standing its ground and thinking that rates will stay where they are.
And this is all a pretty extraordinary turnaround.
