Trials are expensive to run.
Pharmaceutical companies run many clinical trials for cancer drugs.
They have both a scientific and a corporate interest in the drug that they are trialling.
I'm reminded of an investigation a few years ago of 73 studies of new drugs that were published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine.
And of those 73, 60 had been funded by pharmaceutical companies.
Now, that's not unusual.
50 had drug company...
employees amongst the authors, and over half had lead researchers who had accepted money from the drug company, which is sort of an extraordinary ratio.
