But one suicide expert I spoke to told me that we should still focus on suicide prevention in this group, saying it was a real concern that doctors are dying by suicide while working in close proximity to services that could support them.
It can be quite hard to compare to other specific professions, often because there are too few suicides to generate reliable rates.
For many individual professions, the ONS either can't provide rates or it marks them as unreliable.
You could compare doctors to some other high-status professions, such as legal professionals.
For them, men have a similarly lower risk of suicide and women are at slightly lower risk.
But we should be clear that all this data is just a starting point.
The ONS data doesn't demonstrate that the suicides they're recording can be linked to people's professions.
