It had been raging for a few days before they set off.
Now, this may have contributed to the weakening of the hull in the area where the iceberg struck the ship.
We don't have direct evidence of this, but it's not unreasonable.
And at the very least, the fact that they sailed with this fire, it demonstrates a willingness to exchange a degree of safety for profit and reputation.
Yeah, absolutely.
And this one did.
There was one in the Titanic.
And there were inquiries after this incident, of course.
And the American inquiry concluded the speed of the Titanic was inappropriate for that area and time of year, time of night with no moon.
The British inquiry was less harsh, but agreed, you know, it would have been better to have shown more caution.
And the lesson here is we don't need conspiracy to explain these disasters.
We can just look to human error and overconfidence, which are more than able to cause disasters without needing sinister plots, shadowy groups, and hidden motives.

Yeah, I mean, Black Mirror, it's a Twilight Zone-esque show.
The implications of new digital technologies are portrayed in a terrifying manner, as they often deserve to be.
Things like surveillance and AI and social media and robotics.
So it's easy to see why a show like that would be relevant.
In fact, it's so relevant that a lot of people have noted that more than a few Black Mirror episodes have ended up coming true.
Yeah, this was an episode called Nosedive from season three.
