In the near darkness, I felt the fabric of the curtain in my hand.
I clung to it, hoping the rod could support my weight, and slid it over the brightness of the window.
Once again.
The creature was gone.
The malignant wound on my leg twinged.
But I didn't allow myself to sit.
My eyes were on the wall to my right.
A sliver of amber light was leaking out from the side of the curtain, illuminating the sleeve of a jacket that hung from the hook mounted there.
I pressed the edge of the curtain into the wall, and the light disappeared.
I scooted the couch across the hardwood so it pinned the curtain flush with the frame of the window.
Making a slow three hundred and sixty degree turn, I scanned the room for the most innocuous of light sources.
A stray glare, a digital clock, the glowing switch of a power cord.
There was nothing.
I've been in darkness ever since.
Here I lay in my dingy bass bed.
Every time I adjust my position my hand finds a spot of slime or gunk.
But still.
I'm beginning to get tired.
There's something relaxing about being tucked away in a small space, surrounded by complete darkness.
The only thing left to do is hope that someone will find me.
