Exactly, and people think it is a dividend, but it behaves differently.
So in about August, September, you get a member statement from Vanguard, and it's like super boring, but it gives you a breakdown of, for the, say, $100 you received in distribution throughout the year, like 50 of it's franked, like 20 of it's foreign income.
Not that there's foreign income VAS, but you get the idea.
And all of those bits get prefilled into the ATO.
So you go into myGov and you see it all there and you're like, sweet, I'm done.
But it links back to what I was saying before about capital gains with that part not prefilled for a good reason.
So in the member statement they have these things called cost base adjustments.
Now if you get nothing else from this episode and you're an ETF investor this is the piece you need to know.
So every year they will either adjust your cost base up or they'll reduce your cost base down and that's dependent on things that happened inside the fund.
It's not really that important why it happened

This is where the problem compounds and people don't really understand.
So if we take the example, you've been dollar cost averaging for 10 years.
So that's 120 times you bought VAS once a month.
In the first year, you will have had 12, let's say we started on the financial year border.
