Everything's a classic if you hang on to it long enough.
I don't want to denigrate private sellers in any way, but there is one big barrier to buying privately, and that's there is no consumer comeback.
You have no consumer protection whatsoever.
You are reliant entirely on the goodwill of that seller.
If there are any problems further down the line, if your car develops an issue...
whatever.
So it's not that you shouldn't buy from private sellers.
You just need to be really wary about it.
And you just need to make sure that you're... I hate to use an old-fashioned phrase, but you just need to make sure your ducks are in a row.
Preferably, if you're buying private, that person should probably be known to you or known to someone you know, so that their trustworthiness has effectively been vetted.
If you are going buying private, I would be very cautious.
Not to say that...
dealers can't be problematic as well.
They certainly can be.
But if you're buying from a big dealer, one who's affiliated with the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, they do have a code of conduct, they do have a code of ethics.
Yes, sometimes it's not worth the paper it's written on, but there is consumer comeback for you.
Always bear that in mind.
So as I mentioned earlier, your potential savings if you buy an electric car compared to running an equivalent petrol, diesel or even hybrid car are enormous.
