And there was a particular moment late in the first half when he got absolutely steamrolled by Rob Balotini.
But the important part was,
he got up off the line and he just put himself in front of him.
I think that was probably the criticism.
That was the criticism that was being leveled at him maybe six months ago that he wasn't really committing to put himself in front of those tackles and be a speed bump.
Ultimately, Valentini steamrolled over him, but he did enough to slow him down for other players to bring him to ground.
And he got up off his arse and he got over towards the touchline and he actually contributed to a couple of tackles within the next 60 seconds as well.
So I think...
Like, small sample size, I know, but I think we saw a couple of improvements there from him in that regard.
His kicking out of hand was absolutely fantastic.
There was one really crucial penalty in particular in the second half where Ireland were, I think, maybe just inside their own half and he got really adventurous with his penalty kick down the line and drilled Ireland to within five metres of the line.
I think it might have actually been the penalty from which Dan Sheehan scored the try that was disallowed
And then early in the second half as well, just the instinctiveness of his kicking, where he turned around off a breaking ball and just sent Ireland right back down towards the 22.
So I think in the grand scheme of things, the way he got Ireland moving and attacked, the way he put players into position, and also some of the defensive stuff, I think it was a pretty solid performance.
As he said himself, it was patchy.
I think I'd probably say it was a little bit better than that.
Yeah, I would be fairly confident we're going to see Prendergast started against the All Blacks, but there is the impression that we are going to see a good bit of rotation this week.
Some of the frontliners in particular are going to come out of the 23 altogether.
Probably more changes than we normally would see from Andy Farrell, which is like a departure from the norm.
Yeah, I think we're going to see Ciarán Frawley get a started out half.
