historically, we have often covered the people who are controlling that military toolbox who were, you know, in the bombers and the tanks, but not necessarily those at the receiving end.

And I think that it's incumbent on us to remind everybody of the human stakes in Israel and in Iran, and to, you know, to be skeptical of what we're hearing from Tel Aviv, from, uh,

uh, from Tehran and from Washington, because historically we sometimes haven't been as skeptical as we should have been about what will actually happen about what the capabilities are.

And right now it feels as if we're on a trajectory that is going to make things worse.

Um, and so I hope we, you know, sustain that skepticism, um,

as you noted, I mean, you know, Tulsi Gabbard had said just recently that, you know, the intelligence assessment is that Iran is not for now trying to produce a nuclear weapon that is trying to accumulate thistle material, have that option somewhere down the road, but that it is not actually trying to make nuclear weapons right now.

You know, and again, the fear is that that will change.

This will, Iran is trying to establish deterrence and there will be arguments in Tehran that,

look, this shows that we actually have to have nuclear weapons.

So, you know, I really do think that military capacity has to be used at times.

And there are some occasions like the Kosovo War where it made an enormous difference.

But

officials are way too likely to reach for that as the first option.

And I think Israel under Netanyahu has likewise vastly exaggerated the usefulness of military weapons to try to bombing people to achieve peace is not usually a really productive strategy.

And you look at the carnage in Gaza and you see the limitations of

of his military strategies.

And so I just fear that right now he has started something.

He doesn't know how it will end any more than he knew how Gaza would end when he went into Gaza in a big way.
