I agree that maybe these things are cyclical to some extent, but I don't know how we pull ourselves out of this one because I think VAR is so implicated in the entire way it's done.

I should point out, and other people have that,

Tony Poulos' Stokeside 15 years ago and Allardyce's Bowl and everyone, they were up to all sorts in those boxes.

And there was all kinds going on.

And the big clubs did complain about it.

Absolutely.

And I know for a fact they were constantly on about it.

And they weren't the only ones.

So we can't say that this stuff has never been –

discussed or complained about or happened before but i do think var and the hyper detection of every offense in a penalty box now turns it all up to 11 or or higher and obviously social media turns it up a million times higher than that so look is it it's a footballing mess and it's a bit of a mess of our times too

Look, I probably a bit of both.

I think the situation that at set pieces specifically has got less edifying.

I think part of that is an end product of an inevitable product of the sort of marginal gains, the marginalization of everything where, you know, a lot of Premier League teams in the last couple of years have, well, last five years really, have tried cross pollinating with, I mentioned it again, NFL, for example.

to see how they can best optimise these set-piece situations.

And I think as a result, you do have a lot more wrestling and physicality and dirty stuff going on.

That is not part of football.
