So this tech basically ticks a lot of the modernization GP access boxes that the government's focused on.

But there have been some concerns in.

The RCGP said a while back that the idea of referring to a triage tool as a doctor in your pocket or my NHSGP was another name for it, I think, was misleading.

Because even if it's useful, this technology isn't something that can take the place of a trained GP.

I think there's also some concern that tools like this will be seen as an excuse not to invest in the GP workforce to the extent that's really needed.

The 10-year health plan mentioned that AI scribes in general practice could save the equivalent of over 2,000 full-time equivalent worth of GP capacity.

And GPs will want to.

assurances that these tools are going to be rolled out to support them and not to replace them.

I think we had some polling recently that showed about a third of GPs possibly were using AI scribes.

So if it's if it's that widely used, then you know clearly it's a thing that a lot of people find useful and therefore the idea that the government ought to fund it seems to follow from that.

Overall, the capital plan promises record capital funding for the NHS rising to fifteen billion pounds a year by twenty twenty nine thirty, which is some ways off obviously.

Part of this is aimed at general practice, and there was an update on that from the government this week.

We've reported previously on a one hundred and two million pound block of funding aimed at GP premises upgrades in twenty twenty.

That's the financial year just gone.

And that's known as the primary care utilization and modernization fund.

Some of the details around that fund have been a bit elastic.

The Chancellor said in October 2024, so that was part of a budget announcement, that £102 million would pay for around 200 GP premises upgrades.

Then in May last year,

The government said the money would pay for more than a thousand upgrades to GP premises and that it would create space for about 8.3 million extra appointments.
