Yes, I think he... Yes, he was.

I think it was very much at the start they just wanted to breathe new life into ageing players, you know, the Bairstows and the Wokes and Anderson and Broads and those guys, and free them up and give them a renewed sort of energy and vigour for the game, which worked.

But I think the problem was the messaging just didn't really get through to the younger players who came after them, who needed a lot more guidance.

They just never really knew when to seize the moment and when to take the foot off the pedal and try and compete in the longer term and take games deeper.

I think he accepted that he never really quite got that messaging right.

Yeah, I mean, it was great.

It was great entertainment all the way.

There was never, ever a dull moment with Brendan McCullum and the Bass Ballers.

They were so unpredictable.

They were fallible.

They were capable of great days cricket, brilliant cricket, and they were capable of the dumbest cricket.

If that had not happened, they probably would have won that series.

But they started badly.
