Well, we do have a problem in the sense that we've got to work out what we do because, you know, these are
the factories and warehouses of the digital economy.
And New Zealand at the moment is a taker of those services.
The question is, can we start being a producer?
And it's moving so fast, Mike.
I mean, even in the last few weeks, you can feel this has just sped up this discussion.
And New Zealand, in its typical style, can't... It's got to walk and chew gum at the same time.
I think we've got to open the door to the opportunity, but also work out how we can maximise the benefit for New Zealand.
When you have a data centre that uses so much energy...
Is it going to be the data centre that pays not just for the energy but for the transmission that's required to make that happen and all the other services?

I think we know we've got to expand our economy and grow.
We've just got to ensure here that everything is ticking the box across the country so people can feel comfortable.
So why haven't we talked about this?
Well, I mean, that's right.
And you think about on your internet banking or anything you're consuming, whether it's your AI on your phone.
We're all consumers here and often the data that's producing the services we're using at the moment will actually nine times out of ten will be created in an offshore data centre.
Is New Zealand open to adding itself to the world network?
Mike, you know this country is good at a great many things.
Sometimes, though, because we're kind of at the end of the world, things pass us by.
