It is so exciting to be here and I'm so delighted to join you, longtime listener.
It's so nice to be here and I will say the journey to Date with a Debut was a long, long time coming.
And I actually also want to preface this.
I kind of got my way in through Booktopia, which is how you and I ran into each other.
It was lucky to feature you on the Booktopia podcast, uh, Tell Me What to Read, back in the day, a few years ago, which like during the days of the pandemic, we gave you a little tour of of the warehouse, which was a lot of fun.
But
The original idea for Date with a Deboo started during then and it was actually an idea of Ben Hunter and Mark Harding.
Mark was my boss and Ben was the the fiction category manager and he had this idea, let's talk with
debut authors about their journeys to publication.
And it was a lot more of an intricate deep dive.
It was different from the normal chatty episodes that we had.
And I really, really enjoyed putting these episodes together.
So we cut did like a trilogy of episodes with three authors each and we talked about different topics, processes to publication, the books themselves.
And
I thought to myself there's something in that.
It was a one off three little trilogy of episodes, but I was like, there's something in that.
There's something further that we can expand on.
Eventually, of course, you know, there was a big change that happened in Booktopia in twenty twenty three.
I found myself without a job and I kind of asked my boss at the time, Adam Freeman.
