This is a big question and I appreciate the chance to to talk about it because it's it's lucky that we ha get the chance to chat to so many authors and and get
sort of different perspectives on it.
The industry is in such an interesting place right now.
I think that there's been so many discussions around kind of the status that AI will have and the impact that AI will have.
I will kind of preface that
All I can give is my own opinion on it.
There's been the whole controversies around the impact of AI books and you know, the this of hearing stories about how when one famous author publishes a book, a bunch of people publish three books, which are summaries of the book, through feeding their book through an AI filter and trying to do, you know, publish two or three books to try and scalp off their earnings on on opening day.
And then there's the whole controversy around Shy Girl, which kind of really gripped the industry and uh and kind of brought a whole bunch of topics and discussions uh to the forefront, which are a whole bunch of other opinions on that.
But I do think that the concerns about people reading less is true.
I think it's the nature of the increasing crazy world that is social media, people's attention spans are getting
shorter.
But it would be wrong to assume that books are on the ropes because we do have this amazing thing, for example, called book talk, which I think has become the new book recommendation section of this generation.
It's the new word of mouth in a way.
It's just online.
It's in a different environment.
It's why you're seeing so many
Authors like Emily Henry or Taylor Jenkins Reed or Australian contemporaries blowing up
Because the moment that they get really popular on there and people recommend this book was amazing, it blew my mind.
Check out these amazing scenes like chapter 41 from A Court of uh from Sarah J.
Mars's debut.
