As you start to build on that catalogue, it hopefully creates a snowball effect.
Actually, out of curiosity, where are debut voices in 2026, in your opinion?
What sort of trends are you seeing with the kinds of books that are being published by debut?
I completely agree.
There's a phrase is called a yoink and twist where like someone takes something or like an established genre or whatever and then puts their own perspective and colour and and view on it.
Sometimes they deliberately directly reference it, or sometimes it's a play on on established genres and tropes and stuff.
Off the back of your point, I was thinking about some
great books that have kind of come through which have that own voice.
Anything out of the sweatshot literary movement, I have been devouring.
Like Danny Noor's uh memoir, How to Dodge Flying Sandals and Other Advice for Life.
Natalia Figueroa I love that title.
Oh yeah, it's so good.
Natalia Figueroa also has Hailstone's Fell Without Rain, which is the first Spanglish novel published in Australia as well.
In addition to that, Alejandro Matilda
There's this Salsa in the suburbs, which kind of also talks about they're both from Uruguay, and their books touch on the fallout of the dictatorship in Uruguay.
I love those books.
Half Truth, uh Nadia Majouri Nadia Major, yeah yeah.
She's a Tasmanian writer and that's a fantastic book and dives into that culture which in ways that I didn't experience before.
