I have Treasury's forecasts from the budget where they were forecasting that Q2, which was when oil prices were peaking, they were expecting at that point that unemployment would peak at 5.5%, which is higher than where we are today.

The consensus forecasts from economists seem to be pointing at that level, 5.4, 5.5.

We won't know till stats NZ's reports, but we've already been through this, Mike.

Everyone knows that was a really difficult three months in the economy.

Kiwis have experienced that.

It's backward-looking data.

I fully expect the data will reflect what were difficult realities on the ground.

Well, I think it's important to remind the journalists who will be reporting on it on Wednesday that Treasury had already forecast it would go higher in Q2.

What they also say is from there they expect job creation to accelerate.

Well, I have read that story.

I didn't review those plans, nor would I expect to, those operational matters for the chief executive.

My expectation of my chief executives is that they ensure their staff are competent, focused on delivering outcomes for New Zealanders, effective, doing things without excessive resources, and that they're adhering to their legal obligations.

I can't see in the story as reported that any of those things have been breached in this case.

I suspect many of those things are pretty light touch and consistent with what happens in a number of workplaces across the country.
