We ran towards a friend's house who lived in a street off the main street.
So we turned the corner and as quick as we could we jumped over her garden wall and hid behind it.
We crouched down inside the wall and could hear the car stop at the other side of the wall.
We could hear them saying something in English accents and walking around.
My friend and I actually peed ourselves with nerves hoping we wouldn't be found.
After a few minutes they drove away.
Afterwards we actually laughed about it.
As teenagers we had no idea of just how serious it could have been.
It was only a number of years later when a full-page article appeared in the Sunday World that the penny dropped.
The photographs in that newspaper article were of the two men who followed us that night in Cong, John Shaw and Geoffrey Evans.
My friend and I, we still think about how lucky we are to get away with it that night in our young lives and we often think of Elizabeth and Mary.
The next witness has incredible recall and it's no wonder given how close she came to being captured by Shaw and Evans.
This all happened on the outskirts of Galway City in the early hours of a Monday morning in September 1976.
On the Sunday afternoon, I'd driven down to Clare to a traditional music event with my friend.
I was 20 years old.
Driving back to Galway City, two male friends of ours followed us to make sure we got home okay.
On the outskirts of the city, we stopped at traffic lights.
I'd just dropped my female friend off so I was on my own and I was about to turn off the main road.
Our male friends were going straight on.
