Millions of people visit Santorini every year to see its historic sites and whitewashed buildings. But with tourism at a low this time of the year, many of the locals are trying to find a way off the island.
Over the past few days, the island has been shaken by dozens of tremors. Local schools have been closed for the week and the authorities have warned residents not to hold large indoor gatherings because of fears that the tremors could have damaged buildings or caused landslides. Santorini's mayor, Nikos Zorzos, says they have plans in place should the worst happen.
Santorini and the islands that surround it were formed when the crater of a volcano collapsed. It's also the site of one of the biggest eruptions in history. But experts say these current earthquakes do not appear to be linked to volcanic activity and they don't know what's caused them.
