Cricket Wheeler was forced to leave the North Lawn Apartments earlier this month because of unsafe living conditions.
He's been living with other displaced tenants in a duplex in Kansas City, Kansas, but can only stay there for one more week.
Wheeler says the move was so sudden he couldn't even bring important belongings or his cat.
The city has agreed to provide residents with storage units, groceries, moving costs, a security deposit, and three months of rent.

In July, Senate Bill 244 took effect in Kansas, invalidating the birth certificates and driver's licenses of people who have changed the gender markers on their IDs.
The law also bans people from using bathrooms or lockers in public buildings that don't match their gender assigned at birth.
And it allows people to file lawsuits against others they see breaking this law.
This has made life a lot harder for trans people in Kansas, many of whom have had to scramble to get new IDs or are scared they'll face legal consequences for simply using the bathroom.
Author and opinion writer M. Gessen recently published a piece exploring the consequences of this new law in The New York Times.
They're a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winning columnist who's written a dozen books, many of them about autocracy in Russia and beyond.
They joined me on Zoom to talk about what drew them to Kansas and what they found when they visited.
One of the people you interviewed for this story, Siobhan Kirchstein, called the driver's license policy soft fascism.
And you agree with her.
You talk about this in the piece.
Can you tell me a little bit more about why you feel that this is fascism?
Another parallel you draw in your piece is with a refugee crisis because you talk to some organizations in Colorado who have been helping settle trans people who are moving there from states that have been passing anti-trans laws like Kansas.
Can you talk a little bit more about that?
Another thing that you reported was that this driver's license law has been enforced inconsistently.
In your story, you reported that about 1,700 trans people have received a letter telling them that their license is invalid because of the gender marker.
