When I see somebody really having a musical moment or a couple absolutely snogging each other's faces off, I'm like, yes, my work here is done.
It's a privilege to be doing the soundtrack to People's Night's Howl.
It was fought with difficulty because we had too many people there and because I'd spent all afternoon with the police explaining to them.
At one point they were going to call it off and then we realised it would be more dangerous not to do it than to do it.
The first track today is Grandmaster Flash, Adventures in the Wheels of Steel.
This is a really pivotal record in my development from wanting to be in a pop band to wanting to be a creative DJ.
Oh, so tell me about that.
So I'd been playing at school discos and weddings and nightclubs.
But when I heard Grandmaster Flash DJ, he was doing stuff with the records that I'd never heard done before.
It was scratching, but it was more than that.
If you listen to this tune, it hops from one tune to another.
And if you listen to this, you can hear a lot of where I got my influence from.
Not so much.
I mean, the scratching was great.
Yeah, making a collage, either playing one tune on top of another one or just cutting between the two really quickly.
And it just blew my mind.
And from wanting to be a bass player in a punk band for most of my teenage years, now I wanted to be DJing in a nightclub.
And it took that...
control of the crowd one step further you're now manipulating the music in a way that's really like moving people's heads so um yeah this this record just changed my life and and grandmaster flash changed my djing style and i thank him for that you see you see you see you see you see you see you see one for the trouble two for the time come on girls let's rock that
