From my name onwards, I was a child of the 60s and there's a lot of very 60s influenced things.

When I asked my parents, I said, why did you call me Quentin?

And they went, it was the 60s.

It comes from the Latin Quintus, because I was the fifth member of the family.

I was the third child.

But I think they were just, you know, it was just like, you know, I could have been called Aquarius or something.

So it was a little bit of that.

You have to understand that before Quentin Tarantino, in the late 60s and the early 70s, the only Quentin in people's consciousness was England's most celebrated homosexual, Quentin Crisp.

Absolute hero.

And so being named, having the same name as him going through school was, you know... You got a lot of flack.

I got a lot of flack.

And no one could spell it.

My nan still couldn't spell it to her dying day.

She couldn't spell it or pronounce it.

And it was just a weird name and it was a stupid name.

And so when I joined a band, then you get a chance to reinvent yourself.

So it's like the first thing I'm going to do is change my name.

It's like, get rid of that name.

I'd grown up with a flamboyant, unusual name and I just wanted a really normal name.

So Norman Norman just had a good ring to it.
