On Saturday, Mr. Ross come in and plonked down four golden sovereigns for my week's work.
It was the same the next week and the same the week after.
Every morning I was there at ten and every afternoon I left at two.
By the goodies, Mr. Ross took the coming in only once, the other morning.
And then after a time, well, he didn't come in at all.
Still, of course, I didn't dare to leave the room for an instant.
I wasn't sure when he might come and the billet was such a good one that I wouldn't risk the loss of it.
