It's when you get these monosodium urate crystals that can accumulate within the joints.

They get red, hot, very painful, swollen.

And a lot of people go, Well, it's a joint disorder.

But that's not the case.

It's actually much more systemic.

And if you get gout, you're at high risk of heart disease.

But the question is, how many

gout flares, do you need to have in a year to put you at really high risk of a cardiovascular event?

Well, there's a study that's looked at that.

And I spoke to an author of the study, Dr.

Charles Tong, who is a clinical nephrologist at Jia Yi Christian Hospital in Taiwan.

So to be clear, Charles, it didn't matter whether you were one of these people having less than three attacks or more than seven.
