It needs proper funding and it needs to be empowered to really tackle
the scale of this issue and this should align with the nature restoration plan.
So if we want to be serious about restoring nature, we need to look at actually what's putting pressure on nature.
Invasive species, second biggest pressure in Ireland.
There are tough decisions to be made.
People do like their flowers, but also nature is under siege.
So we need to make some tough but correct decisions on this.
The main message really is to try to choose native plants instead of invasive ones.
That's the main thing.
So that's about recognising invasive species and there's great resources online, National Biodiversity Data Centre for recognising them.
And in terms of welcoming nature, welcoming native species into your garden, it's really as simple as just leaving part of your garden to grow wild.
The seed bank is there and we can all play a part in reversing biodiversity loss and making space for nature to recover if we just let nature lead a bit.

Thanks for having me on.
So, yeah, as you said, the book is
Sitka spruce, the amazing timber tree, was distributed to primary schools across Ireland.
What it does is it paints a lovely rosy picture of the Sitka spruce tree in a forest, seeing abundant wildlife around it.
But the reality, as many people will tell you, couldn't be further from the truth.
What the book fails to mention is the well-documented serious negative ecological impacts of the Sitka spruce monoculture forestry model and the anger and grief that Irish people feel that our native woodlands have been replaced by this lifeless alien conifer forest.
That may be what they say but the reality is the reports show that there is huge biodiversity loss in Ireland right now and the forestry plantation, the monoculture plantation model is one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss in Ireland.
