Also, don't think the carbon tax does that much for behavior change at this point.

Like we're seeing prices jump all over the place.

So the when the qu if prices are stable and the car and you're able to say to the public, every year a liter of fossil fuels will go up by two cents.

So and when you when you get a chance, move to a less polluting option.

Everybody knows now that if they can afford it, they want to have an electric car, they want to get off fossil fuels.

The carbon tax isn't adding much value in terms of behavioral change.

What it

What it is doing is it brings in about a billion euro uh a year in tax revenue.

Now, out of a hundred billion in total the government raises, so it's a very small amount of tax overall, but it is ring fenced, as um uh um Kevin McParton said, it is ring fenced for climate action.

Mm, it's it is more ring fenced than almost all other expenditure.

But I agree it's not perfect.

We wanted it to be done by law, and in fact I think the last government promised that it would, but didn't.

But they do announce every every uh October that that of the uh relevant re expenditure or re revenue, which is I think about eight hundred million, because it isn't the whole carbon tax, it's only the increases since twenty twenty.

So let's say it's eight hundred million.

They announce

How they're going to allocate that between retrofitting social welfare measures like the fossil fuel, the fossil fuel allowance, the fuel allowance, and well it is now, and the uh and agricultural measures to to green measures for agriculture.

So they do announce that.

Now, how much of that is done effectively, and there's there are definitely, you know, the controller and auditor general and others have looked at it and said it doesn't actually work out quite like that, but it's more ring-fenced than most areas of explaining.
