Isidore Bakanja's courage and conviction became a powerful symbol of hope in the Belgian Congo, highlighting the unfair conditions and abuse faced by Congolese workers in the rubber plantations.
In 1994, Isidore was beatified by Pope John Paul II, who called him the martyr of the scapular.
He is the patron of exploited workers and of the Congolese laity.
His feast day is celebrated on August 15th.
