And there's also a big choice for Labour MPs who back him.

Are enough of them prepared to effectively take the blame for a leadership contest now?

And then there's a really important question.

Assume he gets to those 81 MPs to trigger a leadership election and Starmer decides to stand against him.

Does he actually win amongst Labour members?

I mean, polling that we've done,

suggests that Starman might actually survive in those circumstances.

So there's a lot of jeopardy all round.

The calculation is if he's up against Burnham or indeed Angela Rayner is that he loses.

Yeah, absolutely it does.

Rainer's team were really hopeful that that would have been cleared up before the elections that we had last week.

But it hasn't happened.

You know, they still think that it's going to be OK, that there's going to be a resolution shortly.

But, you know, that is a problem.

She won't really want to go into a leadership election with that question mark still hanging over her.

I think at the moment his view is that he thinks that Andy Burnham should succeed Sukiya Starmer.

He is very much in Burnham's camp.
