um but i can tell you oh no they're so bad but i will tell you that my youngest son played aau basketball and he played with a lot of black kids and it was the best thing that ever happened to him because he had an experience with people from different neighborhoods different socioeconomic backgrounds and these are his brothers

He's in college now, but these people that were on his team from third grade through senior year, these were his brothers.

And sometimes some other white families would come play on these teams.

And one parent said to me, well, we're going to move our kids because, and this was just a few years ago, it was so disgusting.

We're going to move our kids to this other team because it's going to be more organized and we won't have to deal with all of this stuff.

And I don't like it when we go on trips that sometimes the white people, the white parents have to pay for the black kids.

And this guy was the most religious guy on the team, the most religious family, the most Republican family.

And of course, I stood up to him.

I go, what did you just say?

Like, what did you just say?

And I kind of called him out.

And so I don't know.

I don't know how you teach somebody empathy.

I don't know how you explain to somebody that what has happened, this fascism right now, we have allowed.

And Black Americans have felt like they lived in a fascist state for a very long time.

And our inability to listen to them and to keep them safe, that exposed all of us to the attacks that we feel right now.

struggle with how to teach people in really saturated white spaces, especially in the South, especially that are super religious.
