So many reasons, but specific to that question about the generational connection with the characters, I think that the idea of taking on a love story that was specific to this part of life, when one has been through many relationships, sometimes with the same person, that really fascinated me.

But I certainly wasn't

setting out to make something for a certain kind of generation, I just thought, oh, I haven't seen this story told in this way.

And I think now I've lived enough life to know how to tell it.

Yeah.

Well, the thing that fascinates me about those movies is I, too, was a teenager loving those movies and Woody Allen.

Like, why did I watch Hannah and Her Sisters at 16 and feel like I understood everybody's marital stress?

Yeah.

And I think it's because when we are in moments of high stress in relationships, we often behave like our adolescent selves.

So I think there is this connection, this recognition from young audiences of adults behaving like kids because they are out of control.

And often love and the dissolution of love can make us feel completely out of control.

And so it becomes something that I think every age can recognize.

I was not planning on acting in this movie at all.

And certainly, you know, even I acted a bit in Don't Worry Darling, but really out of necessity, we had no money left.

So I was like, I'll do this part so that we, you know, so that we have someone in that part.

But for The Invite, I was so focused on directing it in a very specific way
