There's a push now for more active travel, have more people walking and cycling and and people taking more public transport.
So the overall big picture, I suppose, aim of the move is a good thing of less driving.
Um but that has tr translated into if we have less parking spaces we'll have less driving.
And really it doesn't reflect the reality of how people live their lives in
the type of uh communities we have and in the climate we have.
I think the problem is that we're seeing a sort of one size fits all approached from uh central government uh rather than uh a local response, which is what we would have seen recently, where the elected councillors uh could look at these things carefully and decide what was needed locally.
What we're seeing now is a squeeze on standards across the board and it been instructed down from the department to local authorities uh where they don't have that flexibility anymore and and the standards
are being squeezed everywhere, um including parking.
Well, we may we may see more of it uh because of the schemes that are being permitted.
And when the decisions are made, um uh people have to live with the real world implications and we s we hear a lot of people saying housing at any cost just get the units built.
But if they're not built to meet the needs of the people who are going to live there and they're causing this amount of, you know, fractious problems in communities and tension between neighbours and disruption and safety problems, um it it plays out later.
You know, we have to get
get the decisions right in the first place.

I do.
I have concerns for people, I suppose, entering into this as if they're buying a used car instead of entering into a construction project.
And what I mean by that is they're not just buying something that will be delivered and dropped into their garden.
They're actually becoming the homeowner in a process of construction, which has other rules.
So it has rules about compliance with building regulations and safety, all of which have to be compliant with.
There's no exemption on that.
And there's also rules about health and safety in construction sites.
