That people are in a position, they're in the fortunate and lucky enough position that they can put the child benefit away.

But they're putting it in the wrong place completely.

And it comes back to what I said a second ago.

I don't know if you were listening a second ago, if you were able to hear it, but we were talking about the five-year rule.

If you're talking about college or deposits or future stuff for your child, none of what you've mentioned so far is in the next five years.

It's all five years plus.

So you have to go and put the money away long term.

I'm going to give you a bit of a calculation here.

If you take 140 euros a month,

which is the child benefit.

And it doesn't matter if you're listening to this and you don't have a child and you don't have a child benefit but you happen to have 140 quid a month, it's still just maths, right?

But if you get 1% a year off that, let's ignore tax, it's going to turn out to be 33,000 euros in 18 years' time when that child is ready to go to college if that's what you want to use it for.

Now, if you, that's 1% on a deposit account and a bank account.

If you manage to put it into a no-brainer 60-40 portfolio and got 4% on it, it's going to turn into 44,000 euros.

Now, this figure is slightly out of date because it was last September I did this.

Last August or September, you and I did this number, David.

But when I looked at it, I was coming into David one of the mornings.

We were talking about college and college costs and everything else.

And I looked at what would happen if you had to put the money in 18 years ago and it matured in August last year in one of the popular funds that was available.

And I didn't cherry pick it.
