Psyche Running, a selection of poems from the German poet Durst Grunbein, translated by Karen Leder, has won the Griffin Prize for Poetry in twenty twenty five, and I'm delighted to be joined by Karen Leder.
Karen, congratulations to you on this prize.
Yes.
Well I'm really hoping to talk with you about the poems, about your interest in Doors's poetry, um, but also about translation.
Um, I wonder if we could begin by you reading the title poem from the two thousand and two collection Configured Night.
Thank you very much for reading that, Karen.
That that's the title poem to the two thousand and two collection Configured Night by Doris Grunbein.
And it's also the opening poem of Psyche Running, this compilation that has just won the two thousand and twenty five Griffin Prize.
I'm curious about the choice to make this the very first poem of this collection.
Yes, how interesting.
We'll talk a little bit about rhyme in a while, 'cause you have translated some of his work from rhyme into rhyme.
Um there's so many options that are given in this opening poem about what a poem can be.
Syllable magic syllable magic, a godless prayer, philosophy and meter, most intimate line, one that cannot be plotted.
And this poem was written over twenty years ago.
