And that that very much reminds me of uh how far it's been from there to New York City.
Uh I was lucky enough to get drafted to Richmond as a 17-year-old, the team that I'd barracked for all my life.
So at that point I thought it was a dream come true.
And particularly on that day in the on the G grand Final Day, uh we end up kissing the cup and and I was one of the better players on the ground.
How good's this?
Life's e just panning out, this is how it works, right?
You work hard, everything falls into place and then uh
Funnily enough, my career didn't pan out as I as I might have liked and and it turned from a dream to a nightmare, I I I say playfully, but the next I th I think that full professional career where I was getting paid was nine years, but only five years in the AFL and it and it didn't go well.
And that probably planted the seed.
I didn't know it at the time.
I thought I'd just go into football coaching.
Um, but then when I was in my first job in the AFL in the coaching ranks, I was at the Crows when they had the Kurt Tippett saga.
And uh, you know, with all the controversies happening with Geelong and Sydney at the moment, it's kind of reminded me of that where the club was in crisis and I as the young coach was like, Oh I'm gonna do something to help this and I'm gonna go overseas, find what I can about psychology, trying to make, you know, find those one percent gains for players.
And while I was there, uh I ran into this programme that invited me to do a masters and
I signed up and and kinda deferred it.
Then uh they sacked Brenton Sanderson, I got a buyout and over I went and while I was studying I got invited to
presented an NFL team and they liked what they saw and signed me for the
on the spot pretty much and and all of a sudden I was doing something different and so really just like very, very lucky uh to have had a few things fall my way and to have been stupid enough to give it a go when little cracks have opened and and now, yeah, like you like you said, it's a long, long way from
Little kid growing up in Glen Waverley landing at uh the M C G and thinking he's living his dream to
now probably actually living my dream where I'm involved in all these sports that
