I mean, the government always pays for that stuff.

So I'm not sure why he's putting that in there.

The issue is they want these tax breaks, this pilot legislation.

And the governor has laid out pretty clearly.

He basically said, we'll give you your bill.

If you pay off the debt on Soldier Field, you're going to leave Soldier Field, then do us a solid, pay off the debt there, we'll give you your bill.

But that's kind of like, it's like $500 million, and the Bears don't technically owe that money.

The Bears came back with a counteroffer of $25 million after $500 million.

So what I'm saying here is, each step of the way, there has been a roadmap that lawmakers have offered for the Bears to get what they want, and the Bears haven't gone that direction.

And I'll go back to the very beginning.

I can tell you straight up, the Senate President and the House Speaker said to both the Bears and the White Sox, if you come together on joint financing for your two stadiums, we might extend the hotel tax and help give you some taxpayer money for this.

And they didn't do that.

Neither the White Sox nor the Bears wanted to do that.

They also said, if you go to a place like Michael Reese,

Yes, I think that's a great question, Lawrence.

And they have, believe me, they have paid for outside consultants who know their way around Springfield.

And I can tell you straight up that they have ignored the advice that some of these consultants have given them.

I think that's how Illinois lawmakers feel right now is they don't know their way around Indiana.

And so they're not taking these threats and they view these as threats.
