And I think a part of that is many reasons, one of which is they just want that stamp of approval.
They want some sense of a grasp of authority.
So they use the Bible because they know a lot of Americans see the Bible as an authority.
And so they're just leveraging everything they can to make sure it empowers their political ideology.
I would pause and I would quote Kirk Cameron to them.
All right, which I don't think I've ever quoted Kirk Cameron in my life, all right, other than maybe growing pains growing up.
But Kirk Cameron, Don, Kirk Cameron said something like seven months ago that I just happened to see a video of it, and I was like, oh, my God, that's actually profound.
And I've used it a couple of times in conversations with Christian nationalists because –
I think in some ways it may be the only thing that actually slows down a bit of this authoritarianism right now.
And what Kirk Cameron did is he just asked kind of a simple question.
He said something like this.
He said, if one president can decide who is a threat, what happens when the next president believes you are a threat?
And what he was doing in context is he was just saying, hey, let's be very careful about what we are doing as people in power because we may not always be in power.
And so I would just pause and I would say to Governor Abbott, I would say to Trump, I would say to every MAGA member that is beyond thrilled because they're in a position of power, great, pause.
what happens when the powers you approve today are inherited by someone you disagree with tomorrow because here's what i know that is very likely and the reason i say that is because for evangelical christians they may look at the situation in texas and probably a lot of them do i grew up evangelical my parents probably absolutely i haven't talked to him about it but i'm sure they're like yes look
Look at us.
This is why we voted for Trump, because, man, we're getting Christian again, bringing God back in schools.
Okay, I just want to pause and say this.
As you celebrate the fact that you have now made the Bible required reading in the state of Texas, are you okay if Mom Donnie in New York City makes the Quran required reading?
