Uh, the pulpit, the stage, the pastor is absolutely silent, just will not address anything.
And so I wrote this and I think it'd be a good conclusion for everything we're saying right now, because there is a difference Don between separation of church and state institutionally speaking and faith in politics.
And the thing that I've learned is I cannot tell people to love their neighbor without talking about politics.
And I would also remind people, politics is a good word.
Now, I know, I mean, think about it, Don.
It's been so beaten down in our culture.
But in its essence, it is...
Our shared common good together.
That's what it is.
And so I wrote this, and this one goes out to every person that is a part of a church or wondering why their pastors don't speak up, wondering why religious leaders aren't speaking up, wondering why more people just aren't speaking up.
And here it is.
Every church is political.
Every church either challenges or reinforces the way power is organized in the world.
And not speaking about politics is speaking about politics because silence is not neutral.
Silence protects the status quo.
It tells the community that centering the comfort of the powerful is more important than the safety of the vulnerable.
You can't talk about loving your neighbor without talking about politics.
Who gets health care?
Who is protected?
Who belongs?
