So if a black person dies in this country via homicide, it is a coin flip that the family will ever get a resolution of justice.
That kind of disparity is, again, another expression that black people's lives in this country under this current system cannot seem to deliver justice, accountability and answers.
The stake we all have in this case, beyond just the humanity point, beyond the empathy point, it is a matter of justice.
Does the life of a Black boy, a Black man, a Black woman, a Black person in this country...
Do they have equal protection under the law?
And if they don't, it ought to outrage all of us.
This case is a microcosm and perhaps even a larger point to this question that is resonating with so many people subconsciously and for sure consciously.
Absolutely.
I mean, you know, I've had dozens of conversations that run the gamut.
I think we have families in our congregation, in our network, whose children have died and they've never gotten justice.
This awakens trauma for that.
We know people who are vulnerable.
very much afraid of their children being in spaces where they are the only Black person.
And they're now wondering, should I let my child go play here?
Should I let my child go on this trip here?
We have people who live in the South who are constantly trying to figure out
Is it safe for our children to be subjected to a process that continues to show us, uh, we would say intentionally, some would say perhaps unintentionally, but nevertheless, the result of the same that our lives are not protected.
People are sad.
People are angry.
People are frustrated.
