um five horses scratched including the favorite uh the morning of the race it was just uh all the things that that make horse racing unsettling it is a great sport it can be a lot of fun but there is a tragic underbelly to it and the fact is when a lot of times when these horses get hurt it's fatal you left out the fact that a trainer was suspended

There are people that do just want to see the sport eliminated, and they do kind of wait for the misfortune like this, and here they come.
Look, I understand that there are some people that don't want to be involved with or associate with a sport where death of a competitor is a potential outcome.
But it is...
an actually increasingly rare outcome.
It happens less now than it used to.
Tracks, I think, are more serious about safety, about regulating medication for horses, about trying to wean the sport off of performance-enhancing or pain-masking drugs.
So it's not a perfect sport, and if you don't like it, that's fine.
But I don't think it needs to be eliminated.
It's taken significant strides towards becoming safer for the athletes.
