The truth is that it's incredibly hard, right?
It's incredibly hard.
And this happens a lot of players, you know what I mean?
Talking from past experience where it's inter-county hurling is so cutthroat, do you know what I mean?
That every single year, a panel from one hurling panel to another every year has never said the same in history.
Someone will always be cut, whether it's performance, whether it's other reasons, whether it's anything.
Someone will always be cut along the way.
That's just the cutthroat nature of it, you know?
And I was hurt and mulled in some ways, do you know what I mean?
Like, it's so, it's this double-edged sword where you don't want them to lose, you don't want them to win, but there's just a selfish part of you that's like,
God, I should be there.
Do you know what I mean?
And I should still be there in this and that.
But over time, like anything in life, you know, you kind of... You come to the realisation that...
you know you start looking back at what I had instead of what I didn't have and I found for I'm fine now competing now and I enjoyed this year an awful lot more than 23 and that's being 100% honest with you because like that I would have had lingering emotions in 23 and I would have found it hard and difficult whereas now a couple of years older even the perspective of having a child you know what I mean and the perspective of different things the older you get
I find it a lot easier now at the time in that first I think it's the first year out I'd say it could be even similar when you retire maybe your first year out I don't know it's different when you retire you're going on your own terms but the first year out is incredibly difficult and you mentioned Seamus Fanning in there look I would be friendly with Seamus from hurling with him I wasn't talking to him at all this year now like it would be incredibly difficult for Seamus the other day do you know and that's just the sporting nature of what it is that guys move on and that's what it is but it's still hard you still have given your whole life to it you know Seamus has still given nine ten years to it
Very same as other players in other counties.
Like if Cork had won this year, Patrick Horgan would be, you'd be talking about Patrick Horgan there, not Seamus.
And Patrick Horgan had just given almost 20 years service.
So it is hard, but it's a representation of life itself.
