This is a story that we are all familiar with, even if we have never read it, even if we have never seen a movie adaptation before.
Because elements of it have entered the popular consciousness, the story of the cyclops or the idea of the cyclops or the sirens.
When I was a kid, it was 1985, there was a cartoon on television, Ulysses 31, which was telling the story in the 31st century.
It's entered popular culture and it's entered our civilization's culture in a very powerful way.
Or James Joyce and Ulysses.
Well, tonight we are talking about the Odyssey on the eve of the release of the new Christopher Nolan film.

who lectures in classics at University College Cork and is an expert in Greek and Roman epic, ancient heroism and late antique literature.
And her books include Claudian and the Roman epic tradition.
Dr. Matthew Ward, who's a teaching associate in classics at the University of Cambridge.
