The response among ordinary people is really impressive, really laudable.
Everybody is turning out as best as possible.
I'm seeing so many people volunteering, health workers walking past me right now, no doubt doing extra shifts and shifts on top of shifts, and of course ordinary people turning out with water and food and donations at every turn.
We've had journalist friends who've been on the site all day and they say that some people simply don't want to talk.
They're sitting in huddled in families as the rescue services are working around the clock trying to reach those who are still missing.
Trapped under the rubble, these are still the vital hours when people can be pulled from the rubble and there have been moments of hope.
I saw video of a baby being pulled from the rubble and there have been a variety of people who've been saved.
But it is a very, very difficult task because of course there is the recovery of bodies as well.
